NEW! East Midlands Sabre League

29th May 2014
East Midlands Fencing together will Chilwell Blades are launching a new East Midlands Sabre League. The League aims to create a fun, friendly environment for fencers of any ability across the region to come together and fight against new different fencers with the same passion for sabre!

How it works
  • Anyone over the age of 13 can take part of any standard.

  • It’s free to enter, although participating clubs may charge a visitors fee (please check their website for details).

  • The league is a rolling individual poule.

  • Fencers fight to 15.

  • Subsequent fights against the same opposition replace previous scores.

  • The only fights that count towards the league must take place on an official league night or as part of a regional tournament such as the East Midlands Regional Sabre Championship.

  • Participants must be members of or fence regularly at one of the fencing clubs affiliated with the East Midlands Region through British Fencing. These are listed on the East Midlands Fencing website.

  • The league will be coordinated mainly though a new Facebook Group; called East Midlands Sabre League administered by Mike Berry. The group will be used for promoting the fight nights, reporting results and sharing the updated league. You can access the group here.

  • The format and rules will be reviewed in September 2014 by Mike Berry, the East Midlands Fencing Committee and participating clubs.

    Current Regional Sabre Nights
The League takes place on the second Wednesday (at Chilwell Olympia) and the fourth Tuesday (at Bluecoat Beechdale Academy) of every month. If you forget, details are on our Club Calendar here.

The East Midlands Cadet Sabre sessions (approximately monthly) will also invite other sabreurs to fight as part of the cadet training sessions, giving our cadets the chance to fight some different and some more experienced fencers. Advance notice of these sessions will be communicated to clubs.

This is a joint initiative by East Midlands Fencing and Chilwell Blades Fencing Club.

Photo comment By John Grant: This sounds just the ticket, I used to fence sabre back in the very early 70's and have started again after a 40+ year break from fencing. 11th June at Chilwell I will try to be there. John
