Sept News & Results
25th September 2011
The new 2011-2012 fencing season has started and as usual we kick off with the Hamlet Open.
Hamlet Open
Hamlet is purely a Sabre event and a very high calibre tournament. Mike Berry & Tom Nicholls had a great start to the year finishing 11th and 19th respectively and Lisa finished 42nd.
Veterans Winton Cup
Meanwhile the same weekend Malc Cawton, Nickola Beck, Sharon Booth & Sue Church were fencing for the Midlands at the Veterans Winton Cup, a two day event at RAF Cosford. Nickola & Sharon fenced with Viv Frith on the Womens Sabre team and Malc with Steve Potter & Pete Baron on the Mens Sabre team & Sue with Dee on the Womens Foil team. All the Midlands teams fenced really well and this year we finished 3rd overall instead of last years 7th!! The Southwest finished 1st again and we were only beaten by 2 fights by Yorkshire who finished 2nd.
The Womens Sabre Team dropped one place this year (BOO!!) finishing 2nd! I don't have individual results for the MS & WF teams.
CSSC Games (Civil Service Sports Council)
Thursday & Friday this week saw the CSSC Games in Loughborough. Usually Chilwell Blades fencers sweep the board with medals and this year they did it again! Mike was the Mens Sabre Champion (again), Lisa the Womens Sabre Champion (again) & Malc took the Bronze (again). In the Foil Malc & Mike went out in the L8 & Lisa came 2nd. On Friday Malc finished 3rd in the Epee, he also tied with Oliver Massey for the Master Of Arms title but Olly already had a win, so won overall. Congratulations to Lisa, Mike & Malc!
Bristol Open
Another very highly ranked and high calibre competition. Lisa had a fabulous result finishing in the L16! And Mike & Tom both finished in the L32. Fantastic results!
Shropshire Open
This weekend saw the Shropshire Open at Wrekin College. All our fencers had a really good day and great results. Katharine Schofield finished 9th/18 in the foil, Nickola Beck 7th/17 Sabre & Tom Nicholls 3rd/37 in the Mens Sabre.
