About

Chilwell Blades Fencing Club is one of Nottingham's largest 3 weapon fencing clubs and the East Midlands Premier Sabre Club.

We have been at Chilwell Olympia since 1974, a few months after the Olympia was itself opened. Our president for life, Malc Cawton has been with it since its conception and the ever youthful Richard Collins and Ian Degville have been here almost as long!

We are a relaxed, friendly, thriving club with an age range from 10 years old, to old enough to know better! Whilst we enjoy improving our skills as fencers we put a lot of emphasis on having a good time and enjoying our fencing. We have a Beginner's Course which runs at various times throughout the year and have an excellent team of dedicated, experienced coaches, specialising in all the three weapons, Foil, Epee and Sabre. All the Committee Members & Coaches are voluntary, they give their time and pass on their experience for the enjoyment of getting others involved in our fantastic sport.

We have a large contingent of successful competition fencers who regularly compete on the UK, International & County fencing circuit. We have several fencers ranked in the British Top 50, Junior & Senior champions, International fencers who have represented our country and we even have a European Champion & two World Veteran Bronze Medallists!

We welcome any visiting fencers to our club, come along any Wednesday evening, you will be assured a warm welcome.

Demonstrations & Taster Sessions

Chilwell Blades can also provide recreational fencing sessions for groups. We are able to provide equipment and fully qualified coaches, all CRB checked to enable your event to go with a swing.

We can run short 'try it' sessions where participants are introduced to the sport with a few basic essentials before trying a fight or we can provide longer 1, 2 or 3 hour sessions where more technique is taught before finishing with a competition.

Some organisations may prefer to have a series of five or six weekly hour long sessions in order to gain a British Fencing Proficiency Award. Such a scheme could be useful to Scout and Guide groups. For the very young we can organise sessions using Plastic or foam swords which are soft, safe, and great fun for children's parties at Swashbucklers.

In the past we have arranged sessions for both junior and senior schools, for scouts and guides, fetes and galas, rotary and lions clubs, for companies and other organisations and stag parties. We have not done a hen party yet but we would be keen to do so.

The sessions are very safe, informative, lively and enjoyable. Participants need not be athletes but should have a reasonable level of fitness and age is no bar!

Costs vary according to your individual requirements and whether you have your own venue. Whatever your needs we can tailor an interesting and exciting session for you. For a quotation contact Malc Cawton or Robert Pryer from our Contact page who will be only to pleased to discuss your event with you. Visit our Gallery for photos.
