About Us

Our president for life, Malcolm Cawton formed the club in his garage in 1974, he then moved it to Chilwell Olympia, just a few months after the Olympia opened. The ever youthful Richard Collins and Ian Degville have been part of the club almost as long!

We have a team of excellent, dedicated, experienced coaches, specialising in all three disciplines of foil, epee and sabre. All the committee members, coaches and helpers are voluntary, they give their time and pass on their experience for the enjoyment of getting others involved in our fantastic sport.

In addition to fencing and coaching we are also able to provide demonstrations and taster sessions, click here for full details.

BBC East Midlands Today featured us and our sport in their A2Z of Olympic sports, we would like to thank them for such a fantastic article, you can see our club in action on the video below!

Chilwell Coaches
Chilwell Blades' coaches are fully qualified coaches, registered either with the British Fencing Association (BFA) or the British Academy of Fencing (BAF). All our coaches have current DBS (CRB), First Aid and Safeguarding certificates. All coaches are experienced fencers and some are Veteran European, Commonwealth and World Champions!
